  1. The Document to be Notarized:
    • Bring the original, unsigned document that needs to be notarized. Notaries are not allowed to notarize copies of documents; it must be the original document.
  2. Personal Identification:
    • Bring a valid form of government-issued photo identification. Acceptable forms include a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID. The ID should be current and unexpired.
  3. Know the Document Type:
    • Be familiar with the type of notarial act needed for your document. Different documents may require different notarial acts, such as acknowledgments or jurats.
  4. Witnesses (if required):
    • If your document requires witnesses, ensure that they are present with valid identification.
  5. Fee Payment:
    • Be prepared to pay the notary fee. Notaries in Washington can charge a fee for their services, and it’s advisable to confirm the fee in advance.
  6. Be Present in Person(even when you do remote or electronic notarization):
    • You, as the signer, must be physically present at the notarization. Notaries cannot notarize documents for individuals who are not present.
